The Councils alternative Plan

After 2,565 people sent in submissions and over 5,000 signed our petition opposing a mega store in Newport, Pittwater Council's own consultants rejected the Woolworths plans.

But Pittwater Council has ignored all this, has ignored its community and voted for its own "alternative" plan to bring about the rezoning of our public land.

Behind this alternative rezoning proposal is a deal made by Pittwater Council with Woolworths. If the rezoning is approved by the State Planning Department, a further condition of the Council/Woolworths deal is satisfied.

This is an outrageous situation and we believe should be the subject of a public hearing. It is a cynical exercise by a local Council, which has no ethical or moral right to act the way it has.

This "alternative" rezoning proposal comes without any prior consultation with the community whatsoever. It is public land at stake here, so if any rezoning were to take place, a clear community benefit should at least be guaranteed.

So we are now asking you to send in a further submission, this time to the NSW department of Planning, care of Pittwater Council who are collecting the submissions.Submissions close on February 10.

Click here for the submission form.

We would encourage you to write personally if possible . You may use this form, or write your own. Some points you may like to raise in your submission to the Department of Planning may be found on our form. The form may be dropped into the council, mailed or scanned for email. The email address is pittwater_council@pittwater.nsw.gov.au
